Leca Mortar
Mortar is made by properly mixing a binder such as cement or gypsum with a filler like fine and coarse sand or lightweight aggregates. Dry plaster mortar, masonry mortar, and low water-absorption mortar produced in the leca factory are cement-based mortars made from Leca lightweight aggregates (industrial Leca pumice).
Ready-to-use Leca mortar is produced and offered in three categories: plaster (rendering), masonry (bricklaying), and low water-absorption mortar.
features of leca mortar
Lightweight, has a weight equal to half of the sand and cement mortars used in construction.
Suitable for Thermal and Sound Insulation
Eliminates Thermal Bridges Within the Ordinary Mortar Layer
High Workability
Quick and Easy to Use in All Areas
Perfectly Compatible with Lightweight Construction Blocks
Free of Organic and Harmful Substances
Frost Resistant
Very Low Slump Loss
Minimizes the Formation of Cracks
Provides Optimal Curing Conditions Due to Internal Porosity
General Economic Justification for Using Various Types of Leca Mortar
Prevents Wastage and Overuse of Cement
Prevents Mortar Waste and Ensures Proper Usage
Reduces structural weight and construction costs.
Lowers building energy costs: Leca masonry mortar acts as insulation, preventing the formation of thermal bridges that cause energy loss. Plaster mortar increases the thermal resistance of exterior walls, reducing energy waste.
- Reduces labor and execution costs.
Increased construction speed and faster return on investment: Using Leca masonry mortar reduces wall-building time, resulting in higher execution speed, lower overhead costs, and quicker return on investment.
- Using Leca plaster mortar, the fast setting time increases execution speed and minimizes material waste from mortar falling off the walls.
Eliminates the need for specialized supervisory staff.
Allows transfer of excess mortar in proper packaging to other floors or construction sites.
- Enables returning excess mortar to Leca company if within the expiration date.
leca masonry mortar
Masonry mortar is used for bedding various blocks and bricks. One of the weaknesses in structures built with masonry materials is the binding mortar. Mortars produced using traditional workshop methods lack quality and, acting as a thermal bridge over at least 10% of the total building surface, create unfavorable conditions for energy loss. In contrast, using Leca mortar provides high-quality mortar while preventing energy waste in the building.
leca plaster mortar
Leca plaster mortar is available in two colors, white or gray, and in fine or coarse texture, according to customer orders. Thanks to its superior composition, this mortar does not develop shrinkage cracks in very hot environments, resulting in a uniform, crack-free finish. The absence of shrinkage cracks is due to one of the outstanding features of Leca lightweight aggregates known as internal curing. During mortar preparation, the Leca aggregates (industrial Leca pumice) absorb excess water and gradually release it during cement hydration, acting as an internal water source.
Application Method and Consumption of Ready-to-Use Leca Mortar
Leca mortar is supplied in 25-liter packages. To prepare masonry mortar, plaster mortar, or low water-absorption mortar, simply mix the contents of one package with 6 to 8 liters of water, depending on the intended application, and use.
The required amount of mortar per square meter of blockwork, with a mortar layer thickness of 1.5 to 2 cm and filling vertical joints, is as follows:
| 20 cm wall with leca blocks | 1/2 bag |
| 15 cm wall with leca blocks | 1 bag |
| 10 cm wall with leca blocks | ۰/5 bag |
The consumption of plaster mortar depends on the layer thickness, application method, and material wastage. However, it is generally used in the following amounts per square meter of wall:
| Plaster mortar application with a thickness of 3.5 cm | 1/5 bag | For very hot or very cold regions |
| Plaster mortar application with a thickness of 2.5 cm | 1 bag | For hot or cold regions |
| Plaster mortar application with a thickness of 1.5 cm | 0/8 bag | For temperate regions |
(Plaster mortar, once prepared, can be applied using both traditional and shotcrete methods.)
